Biography of Winston Leonard Seaton, Artistic Director Of Casa Rancho Art Retreat.

I was born in Toronto Canada in 1940. At nine years old I had my first art lesson from Jan Berga, the father of Canadian figure skating champion Petra Berga and at the age of ten my first tempra painting was sent on a travelling art exhibition to Australia. I studied fine art at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in Halifax and continued my studies at the Vancouver School of Art, graduating in 1963 where I studied painting under Jack Shadboldt and Tach Tanabe. I went on to London England where I completed a Post National Diploma in Design at the London College of Printing and Design.

Most of my life I worked in the design industry but I continued to paint. I have exhibited at the Bernadette Gallery in North Vancouver, The Federation of Canadian Artists Gallery in Vancouver, the Fraser River Gallery in Fort Langley and more recently at my own gallery the Kempt Lake Gallery in Kempt, Nova Scotia, the Rosignol Cultural Centre in Liverpool, Zwickers Gallery in Halifax, and the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia Rental Gallery in Halifax.

My works are in private collections in Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Switzerland, and Poland.

I was the founding member of the Harmony Lake Group of Painters and the Gambier Island School of Fine Art in British Columbia and have taught painting at the Nova Scotia College of Art, British Columbia Institute of Technology and the University College of the Fraser Vallery as well as adult education programs in Nova Scotia.

Learn to paint, find your hidden talent. With its fabulous sunsets over the beaches of Langosta and a bottle of wine, everyone loves this outing. If portraits are your thing, with the faces of the colourful Costa Rican's abound, bring your camera, or let us have someone sit for you to really capture the warm, golden brown tones of their sun bronzed faces. Paint the Braum cows as they stroll past the hacienda, guided by the sabaneros, the real cowboys of Costa Rica, whose only transportation to work and home are there trusty horses, goughows worn and saddles aged.

How about the howler monkeys, black and loud with their babies hanging from 50 meters above in the endangered Guanacaste trees. Whether it is acrylic, oils or water colour, capture the feel of Costa Rica in your art and the memories will live forever. The flora and fauna of the beautiful gardens, hibiscus and bananas trees, leave your photos at home and explore the new world of the tropics and its many wonders.

Launching the CASA RANCHO Artists' Retreat has been the result of several years of planning. My first visit to Costa Rica was in 2003 and I fell in love with the country and in particular the area around Tamarindo. Painting the lush landscape of the tropics was a new experience for me as I had spent most of my time painting the landscape of Nova Scotia and Canada. It was during my last trip to Costa Rica in 2005 that the germ of the idea to start an Artist's Retreat formulated in my mind.
